By Bill Althaus, Grain Valley News Following another sensational basketball season, Seyfert was the darling of the postseason honors and awards circuit. The 5-foot-10 guard/forward was named The Examiner Girls Basketball Co-Player of the Year last season after averaging 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 2.3 steals. She shot 45.3 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from three-point range (second-best in the metro area), and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line (best in the metro area). She was also named Suburban White Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row. But her favorite postseason honor came when she verbally committed to attend Rockhurst University in downtown Kansas City. “Rockhurst has a great player and person in Addy Seyfert,” Eagles basketball coach Randy Draper said. “She’s been an outstanding player, and an even greater kid. A lot of the pressure is removed when you make that college commitment, and we expect another big season from Addy.” The personable Seyfert feels the same way. “When I made a verbal commitment to attend Rockhurst, I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders,” Seyfert said. “It’s one of the biggest decisions you can make, and while basketball played a big part in my decision, their nursing program played a big role, too. “When I visited Rockhurst, I felt at home talking to the players and coaches on the basketball team, and to everyone I met through the nursing program. “It’s just what I wanted, and I’m going to be close enough to home that my parents can come see all my games.” The only downside this summer came when Seyfert fractured her left ankle—playing basketball. “It could have been a lot worse,” said Seyfert, who is about to remove her walking boot. “I took the time away to really relax and enjoy the summer, because I’ve already thought about my workout plan for my senior season and how I want to have a season where Rockhurst is happy they made the decision to have me at their school. “And I want to make my senior year fun. That doesn’t mean I’m taking any time off—if anything, I’m going to work harder. “I know the nursing program at Rockhurst is going to be demanding, and I want to put the same work ethic into the classroom that I put on the court.” Seyfert, who will be a senior at Grain Valley High School this fall, earned numerous postseason honors following her junior year.
