Our Code of Ethics
Accurate and Fair Reporting:
Our reporters work to present accurate, fair, comprehensive coverage of issues of interest to the community.
We support the open and civil exchange of views.
Respect for our sources and subjects:
We will balance the public's need for information against the potential harm or undue intrusiveness of sources and subjects.
Act Independently:
While we rely on and greatly appreciate support from our advertisers and members, they do not influence our coverage in any way.
We will distinguish between advertising and news coverage. Sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such.
Reporters who have a vested personal or financial interest in a topic do not report on that topic. In the event a situation arises that could be perceived as a conflict of interest, it will be disclosed. Reporters will not accept meaningful gifts from any entity that could have an interest in our coverage.
Accountability and Transparency:
When errors happen, we endeavor to correct them as quickly and transparently as possible.
We will encourage civil dialogue with readers about our ethical choices regarding coverage and content.
Reporters will refrain from participating in political activity, such as campaigning or petitioning.
Sources to develop our Code of Ethics include the Society of Professional Journalists.
