The Kansas City Chiefs head to Germany this weekend to face the Miami Dolphins in an early morning game on Sunday. A fundraiser planned for the Good People Cafe, opening next year in Grain Valley, will allow you to enjoy a full catered breakfast while watching the game and support the cafe at the same time.
Sinclair's Restaurant will cater the event, hosted at Valley Moments, 517 Gregg ST. Breakfast begins at 8:00am; kickoff is at 8:35am. A suggested donation of $10 per person is requested ($5 for those 5 and under). Funds raised from the event will help the cafe with new construction and build-out expenses. (Event flyer provided below for additional information). Beneath the glow of the full moon, the City of Grain Valley will be hosting its second annual Downtown Spooktacular, a free community event from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27th. In 2022, Downtown Spooktacular brought in over 2,000 residents and visitors to the downtown district. Businesses were able to register in contests and as a treat station – handing out goodies and hosting quick games at their assigned space. Trick-or-treaters were able to walk the downtown district and collect candy/goodies from local businesses, participate in the City’s haunted walk-through, and enjoy a stage show put on by volunteers and City staff. This year Halloween enthusiasts of all ages are invited to join us for an unforgettable evening of family-friendly fun. Downtown Spooktacular will commence with a Witches and Wizards Walk, beginning in Armstrong Park and ending at the Halloween stage in Downtown Grain Valley. Following the walk, festivities will be ready and waiting for residents in the downtown district. After an evening of your traditional trick-or-treating, Downtown Spooktacular will end with a Halloween fireworks show. “From participating in our jack-o’-lantern contest or window decorating contest to trick-or-treating or watching our first-ever fireworks show, there is something for everyone at Downtown Spooktacular,” Public Information Officer Tiffany Lor said. “For the safety of trick-or-treaters and staff, we will be closing Main Street from Yennie to Front Street between 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. We ask that motorists seek alternative routes during the event hours.” Other closures are as follows:

Mid-Continent Public Library’s new Grain Valley Branch, located at 400 SW Buckner Tarsney Road, is now open. The brand-new 12,500-square-foot building offers a variety of upgraded amenities, including:
The former Grain Valley Branch was located in the shopping center a mile away at 101 SW Eagles Pkwy. and was 4,000 square feet smaller. Replacement of the Grain Valley Branch is part of the Library’s ongoing Capital Improvement Plan, made possible by an increase to Library funding through the passage of Proposition L by voters in 2016. Design was completed by Sapp Design Architects and Helix Architecture + Design, with JE Dunn assuming responsibility for construction contractor management. Photo credit: MCPL
